NAPLEX and MPJE Tips: What pharmacists should be aware of in regards to pharmacy technician scope of practice

Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists scale by performing many tasks within the scope of the pharmacy technicians. Pharmacists and Pharmacy managers should never forget that they are responsible for all actions performed by a technician since technicians must always work under the supervision of a pharmacist. You should also keep in mind that pharmacy technicians’ scope of practice can be different between practice settings. Always reference the BOP/Pharmacy laws related to this topic.

  4. Can they transfer prescriptions to another pharmacy? If yes, what are the details?

    1. Same chain, or another pharmacy

    2. Restrictions on the drug schedule

  5. Can technicians have an increased scope of practice if board-approved training is completed?
